New Venue for Surgical Pre-Admission Clinic

People booked for planned surgery at Hawke’s Bay Hospital will attend their pre-admission appointments at a new location, in revamped and extended clinic rooms, on the Hawke’s Bay Hospital campus from Monday 12 November.

The district health board’s former Renal House cottage, on the corner of Omahu and Canning roads, has undergone extensive building alterations and will now be home to Pre-Admission Clinic appointments, following the transfer of renal services to another site on campus.

The name of the new clinic is “Te Kuhunga ki te Waiora” – which means entry or gateway to wellbeing.

Previously pre-admission appointments were held within Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s day surgery clinic. The new clinic rooms provide space and privacy away from daily hospital busyness. The renal cottage refurbishment is part of a wider surgical expansion project to make way for an eighth theatre that’s planned for completion in 2020.

Te Kuhunga ki te Waiora was blessed by the DHB’s kaumatua at a ceremony on Friday 9 November in preparation for Monday’s lunchtime opening to patients.

Patients attending their pre-admission appointments can park in Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s main public car park and walk a short distance up Omahu Road to get to the clinic. Alternatively there are a small number of car parks, including disabled parking, directly within the new clinic vicinity.

Outpatients can also travel for free to and from their appointment from anywhere on the goBay bus network on presentation of their appointment letter to the driver.

Patient appointment letters will include a map of where the new service can be found.
