Hawke’s Bay people aged between 60 and 74 will this week start receiving pre-invitation letters inviting them to participate in the National Bowel Screening Programme, which officially kicked off in Hawke’s Bay today (9 October).
What is it?Hoki ki te Kāinga is a service for people who will benefit from a short period of intensive rehabilitation in their own home after a stay in hospital.

Hawke’s Bay Hospital continues to remain extremely busy with an increase in admissions of people experiencing respiratory illnesses like asthma, pneumonia and bronchitis.
Orthotics is the branch of medicine that deals with the provision and use of artificial devices such as splints and braces. It is a service which assesses patients in hospital, and follows up with outpatients offsite in Hastings.
Community Mental Health South consists of two teams, one based at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and another at Central Hawke's Bay Health Centre.
The Maternity Resource Centre at 234 Kennedy Rd is a one-stop shop for pregnancy and early parenting needs. It provides pregnancy tests, support to find a midwife, midwifery assessments and clinics, breastfeeding support and pregnancy and parenting information. Ostomy services are offered to people who have, or are expecting to require a stoma (a surgically created opening in the abdomen for evacuation of body waste).
Stomas include: colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy. Ostomy services provide people with information, advice and support before and after surgery.
