New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) members have rejected the revised pay offer from DHBs and given notice of industrial action.
Nursing, midwifery and healthcare assistants covered by the NZNO Multi Employment Collective Agreement (MECA) have issued notice, to all district health boards, of a full withdrawal of labour.
This action will affect all places Hawke’s Bay District Health Board provides health care or hospital-related services for 24 hours from 07:00am on Thursday 5 July until 7:00am Friday 6 July.
We respect the right of NZNO members to take industrial action, and planning is well underway to reschedule services accordingly. The DHBs will be meeting with NZNO to finalise contingency plans for Life Preserving Services (LPS)
During strike action, we will need volunteers to cover work that is not part of LPS, but is still part of the essential care we need to keep our communities safe.
Thank you to the many people who have already offered to assist, however we still need more people and ask anyone who can help to consider providing clinical or non-clinical support. This will be particularly important after-hours.
Assistance is welcome from anyone – including medical, allied health and clinical staff as well as nursing staff who are not NZNO members. We will ensure there is appropriate support while working and training as required for completing essential tasks.
