Urology - your urinary system
The Urology service at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital focuses on surgery required for, and some medical diseases of adult and infant, male and female, urinary tract systems.
We also treat some aspects of the male reproductive organs, but do not usually perform vasectomy.
It is possible you will be referred to a urologist at the hospital if you have a problem with your kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra or the male reproductive organs including the, prostate, testicles or penis. As a female you may also be referred re problems of incontinence and bladder function.
Urology combines the management of medical (non-surgical) and investigation of conditions such as recurrent urinary tract infections, with the surgical management of conditions such as kidney, bladder, testes or prostate cancer, urinary tract stones or trauma injury, incontinence and congenital abnormalities.
Referral to this service is from your family doctor or GP, or from hospital specialists in the Emergency Department or other specialists.
