Information about your Renal Clinic appointment with a Kidney Specialist
You have been referred to the renal or kidney service to see one of the team. Your appointment may be with a Nephrologist (Kidney Specialist Doctor) or Nurse Practitioner (Kidney Specialist Nurse).
Most people have two kidneys, which do a number of things in your body including:
- Make urine or mimi
- Secrete hormones which is important for blood and bone health
- Help regulate your blood pressure
Your family doctor has asked us to help give the best advice regarding your kidney health. We will talk with you and help you decide on the best management plan for you. This will take into account your personal wishes, and may include prescribing or changing your medicines.
About renal services
The renal service is made up of doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals including a social worker, dietitian, clinical physiologists and health care assistants. We are a dedicated team and want to work with you to achieve the best possible outcomes for you and your family/whānau.
