Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s (HBDHB) Public Health Team can confirm that the patient in Wellington Hospital diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is linked to the Havelock North Campylobacter outbreak.

Older Persons Mental Health is a specialist multidisciplinary community team based at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
The team includes a psychogeriatrician, medical officer, associate clinical nurse manager, registered nurses, social worker, occupational therapist, cognitive therapist and clinical psychologist.
The Hawke’s Bay District Health Board Laboratory Service has facilities in Hastings, Napier, Central Hawke’s Bay and Wairoa.
People are being warned not to swim in Waipatiki Lagoon due to contamination. The levels exceed the maximum values recommended in New Zealand’s Recreational Water Guidelines and indicate that, at the time of sampling, there were excessive amounts of faecal matter, either animal or human in the water.
Hawke’s Bay District Health Board is asking everyone in Hawke’s Bay to make sure they complete their Census forms by March 6 so health doesn’t miss out on future Government funding.
