Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, Central Hawke’s Bay’s Mayor and the Central Hawke’s Bay Health Liaison Group have reached agreement, with the district health board agreeing to defer the temporary closure of the Central Hawke’s Bay Health Centre’s ward beds over the Christmas holiday period.
Hawke’s Bay health officials are urging parents to check their children’s immunisation status following three cases of mumps being confirmed in Hastings. One child was a student from Hastings Boys High School and the other two cases are adults.
A second planned 48 hour junior doctors’ strike from 8am Tuesday 29 January until 8am Thursday 31 January will affect some surgery and outpatient clinics planned for next week at Hawke’s Bay Hospital.
The district health board is pleased to advise it has made contact with all, but one, of the people at risk from equipment that had not been completely sterilised and was used in Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s operating theatres and sent to outpatient clinics.
Hawke’s Bay Hospital services will be impacted with many outpatient clinics and non-emergency surgeries postponed or put on stand-by due to next week’s planned two day (48 hour) national strike by junior doctors.

Gastro costs to Hawke’s Bay District Health Board were approaching $766,000 as at December 2016.
Norovirus has been confirmed as the bug that has affected a number of patients and staff at Hawke’s Bay Hospital during the week. Chief Medical and Dental Officer John Gommans said the outbreak appeared to be under control, however one ward continued to have restricted visiting in place.
Hawke’s Bay Hospital is busy and people with less serious health concerns are asked to think twice before going to the Emergency Department.
