Services we provide

Our aim is to make sure your mammogram is as easy and comfortable as possible.

  • Free mammograms take 20 to 30 minutes.
  • You choose when and where you have your mammogram.
  • Our staff are respectful, friendly and understanding.
  • We have late nights and Saturday appointments.
  • You can bring a support person.
  • We can arrange a free interpreter for you.

Call us when you get your invitation letter with a suggested date and location to confirm your appointment time. If another date or location suits you better, we will do our best to accommodate you.

Once enrolled on the programme, you will be re-invited every 2 years by BreastScreen Aotearoa. If you move house or change your postal address, please contact us to update your address so that your next invitation letter reaches you.

BreastScreen Waitematā Northland

BreastScreen Waitematā Northland is part of the national breast screening programme for women aged 45 to 69 years. They provide free mammograms at6 fixed and mobile sites across West and North Auckland (Waitematā) and Northland.

Services BreastScreen Waitematā Northland provide include:

  • mammography
  • ultrasound
  • fine needle aspiration
  • breast biopsy.

Kia Ū Ora — Waitematā Breast service

The Kia Ū Ora — Waitematā Breast service at North Shore Hospital provides assessment, diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment for people with breast cancer and breast disorders on referral.

Services the Kia Ū Ora — Waitematā Breast Service provide include:

  • mammography
  • ultrasound
  • fine needle aspiration
  • breast biopsy
  • surgical services.

Referral information

You can have a free mammogram (breast screen) every 2 years if you:

  • are aged 45 to 69 years of age
  • have no symptoms of breast cancer
  • have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months
  • are not pregnant
  • are eligible for public health services in New Zealand.

Your main healthcare provider can refer you to the Kia Ū Ora — Waitematā Breast service. If symptoms evolve during the waiting period, such as breast lump increasing in size, talk to your main healthcare provider for a reassessment so that priority can be reassessed as necessary.
